Writing a Helpful Bug Report

A good bug report saves a dozen back-and-forth emails. The pattern we find most useful is six short pieces of information submitted together.

  1. The exact URL of the page where it happened, for example the image decoder or the camera scanner.
  2. Your browser and its version. Chrome 124, Safari 17, Firefox 125, or similar.
  3. Your operating system. iOS 17, Android 14, Windows 11, macOS Sonoma, etc.
  4. What you tried to do in one sentence, such as upload a PNG to the image decoder.
  5. What happened instead. If there is an error message, copy it exactly.
  6. A sample QR code image if you have one. We never share samples publicly and delete them once the bug is reproduced.

If the issue involves a scan that returns nothing, please also tell us whether the QR code scans fine using another tool or your phone's native camera. That one data point separates a decoder bug from a damaged QR code faster than anything else.

What We Cannot Help With

So your message goes to the right place, here are the requests we regularly receive but are unable to assist with directly. Pointing you to the right resource saves time for both of us.

  • Generating QR codes. We are a decoder, not a generator. For creation, try QRCode Monkey or the official ZXing library.
  • Recovering lost WiFi passwords without the QR code. If you do not have the printed QR, the router admin panel is your path.
  • Bulk decoding jobs or API access. We run entirely in-browser and do not currently offer a batch endpoint. Reach out if your use case is commercial and we can discuss.
  • Judging whether a specific URL is safe. Our safety check is heuristic guidance only. Pair it with Google Safe Browsing or VirusTotal for a definitive verdict.
  • Custom training or tutoring. The About page and each tool's FAQ cover almost every question people send.

Response Times and Coverage

The project is maintained by a small team. We aim for response windows that are honest about that reality rather than promising instant replies we cannot keep.

  • Security disclosures: first reply within 24 hours, weekends included.
  • Bug reports and production issues: first reply within 1 to 2 business days.
  • Feature requests: first reply within 3 to 5 business days. Longer if the idea triggers a design discussion internally.
  • General questions and business inquiries: first reply within 2 to 3 business days.
  • Privacy and data requests: first reply within 72 hours, in line with our privacy policy.

Timezone coverage is primarily Europe and North America working hours. Messages sent on Friday evening or over a weekend usually get a reply the following Monday.

How We Handle Your Message

Your contact form submission is delivered to our support inbox by email. We do not run a ticketing system, a CRM, or a marketing automation pipeline. That keeps the process simple and your data minimal.

We keep messages only as long as needed to resolve the conversation. Bug reports with attached sample QR codes are deleted within 30 days once the underlying issue is fixed or closed. We never share your email address with third parties, and we never send marketing emails. If you would like us to delete your correspondence sooner, reply to any of our messages asking for deletion and it will be done within 7 days.

For details on how data is handled site-wide, please read the privacy policy. For legal questions about the decoder itself, see the terms of use.

Common Questions Before You Write

Is there a phone number or live chat?
No. The decoder is a free, lightweight browser tool maintained by a small team. All support happens in writing through the contact form so we can investigate properly and give you a useful answer rather than a rushed one.
Can you decode a specific QR code for me?
You can do it yourself in seconds using the image decoder or the camera scanner. Everything runs in your browser and we never see the content. If the code refuses to decode even after several attempts, that is when writing to us makes sense.
Do you offer a commercial license or white-label version?
We are open to discussing licensing, embedded versions, or a hosted API for business use. Select Business Inquiry in the subject field and include your expected monthly volume and the product you are building around it.
Will you help me recover a QR code I lost?
If you have any image of the original, the decoder will almost certainly handle it. If you do not have the image at all, there is no way to reconstruct a QR code from nothing. In that case, the underlying data (WiFi password, contact details, URL) has to come from the original source.
Can I translate the site into my language?
Yes, we welcome language contributions. The site is currently available in English and Spanish. If you would like to help translate the interface and the tool FAQs into another language, write to us and we will share the source strings.
Are there ads, trackers, or affiliate links in your emails?
No. Email replies are plain text. No tracking pixels, no affiliate codes, no newsletter enrollment. The only links we include are direct references to resources relevant to your question.
